The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a nationwide recall of one lot of the dietary supplement MyBladder, manufactured by Purity Products, due to possible contamination with Escherichia coli (E. coli) O7:K1 and 1303. The bacteria can cause serious gastrointestinal and urinary infections, posing particular risks to infants, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The recall affects MyBladder dietary supplement bottles produced by Plainview, NY-based Purity Products. The affected lot can be identified with lot number 03042517. Each bottle is a 150 CC white container with a white cap and contains 60 clear capsules filled with brown powder.
According to the FDA, both strains of E. coli identified “may pose a risk for gastrointestinal or other infections,” with symptoms including diarrhea, abdominal cramps, low-grade fever, nausea, and loss of appetite. While no illnesses have been reported, the agency issued the recall “as a precaution to protect all consumers and uphold product safety.”
The MyBladder supplement, which claims to support “normal bladder tone and control,” was distributed directly to consumers nationwide. Routine quality testing first revealed the contamination concern, and further investigation linked the issue to a temporary change in suppliers.
Consumers who have purchased MyBladder supplements with the affected lot number should stop using the product immediately. The FDA advises returning it to the place of purchase for a full refund or safely discarding it. Anyone who experiences unexpected side effects or symptoms of infection should contact their healthcare provider promptly.
Common signs of an E. coli infection, according to the Cleveland Clinic, include stomach pain, fever, vomiting, and fatigue. Those with compromised immune systems should take extra precaution due to the potential for more severe complications.
The MyBladder contamination recall underscores the persistent challenges of supplier verification and quality assurance in the supplement industry. Without consistent documentation and transparent traceability, even well-established brands can face recalls that threaten both consumer safety and business credibility.
Manufacturers can mitigate these risks through blockchain-secured Certificate of Analysis (COA) management, ensuring that all product batches are validated, tamper-proof, and traceable throughout the supply chain. Platforms like Qredible’s MyCOA® and Q-Verify™ help supplement brands verify product integrity, automate compliance checks, and demonstrate safety transparency to regulators and consumers.
This latest recall is another reminder that trust in supplements must be earned through data-backed verification. As contamination concerns and undeclared ingredient risks continue to surface, forward-thinking companies are embracing AI-driven compliance monitoring and blockchain authentication to prevent issues before they reach consumers.
